The Portland Beavers (Padres affiliate) today announced that right-handed reliever Scott Patterson was traded to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations. Patterson went 3-3 with one save, a 4.25 ERA (26er, 55.0ip) and 64 strikeouts in a team-high 51 appearances with the Beavers this season and also represented the club in the Cricket Wireless Triple-A All-Star Game on July 15.

The Rangers completed a trade with the Houston Astros on Tuesday to reacquire Ivan Rodriguez for two players, according to multiple sources. The Astros will receive a Minor League player and a player to be named later. Rodriguez, 37, a 13-time Gold Glove winner, has been told that Taylor Teagarden will remain the Rangers' No. 1 catcher. The Rangers had been looking for a catcher after Jarrod Saltalamacchia went on the disabled list with a sore right arm. Saltalamacchia could be out for the remainder of the season. Rodriguez, 37, is hitting .251 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs in 93 games and 344 plate appearances for the Astros. He is expected to join the Rangers on Tuesday night but probably won't be activated until Wednesday.

The Tigers have acquired Aubrey Huff from the Orioles for a minor league player. "I've been in last place basically my whole career, so this is an exciting time for me," Huff told the Associated Press. "I'm looking forward to it." Huff is batting .253 with 13 homers and 72 RBIs this season. "He adds another left-handed bat to our ballclub and is a middle-of-the-lineup type hitter," Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "We've worked on trying to get a bat for a while."

The Red Sox tried to boost their infield Friday, reacquiring shortstop Alex Gonzalez and cash from the Reds for minor league infielder Kris Negron, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Brewers have acquired Reds right-hander David Weathers for a player to be named later, as reported by ESPN.com on Sunday. The 39-year-old reliever starts his second stint with Milwaukee. He previously pitched for the Brewers from 1998-2001.
